Hi there - loads of news to come. Keep watching this space for all the news since before Christmas!
We have lots of new stories - so much has been happening. We just had a problem uploading - so if you see this - Watch this space...
This is the original FAN Group. There is a very nice teacher here called Roswitha who is happy to help those women wanting to learn English. One or two Mums will sometimes bring a child with them. Mothers are responsible for their own children at all times. Grangetown Womens FAN has helped many women - some are now working, others are on courses. One lovely member was so worried about getting a job. She started work in a hotel and has now move to England as an Assistant Manager. We were sorry to lose her but very happy about her success. Why not come if you are a women living in Grangetown. Come if you are lonely or if you are friendly, if you like helping others, you will be surprised how they might help you.
Did you know that Grangetown Wednesday FAN Group is one of the original FAN Groups started in 2003? So many people with very interesting backgrounds have come in the last 6 years. We have made friends with people from all over the world and they have loved meeting local residents and people of Cardiff. The Wednesday FAN Group has been very large and then went small again. Sometimes the meeting goes small because people have gained great confidence from coming to FAN Meetings - and they go on courses, or get jobs. Some found FAN was great on their CVs as it proved how they met and mixed with all sorts of people of different ages from many different backgrounds. Grangetown Wednesday FAN went very small - but we are growing again and really enjoying meeting our new friends. New to Grangetown? Why not pop in? We meet at the Salvation Army - downstairs in the hall. Come down the lane at the side and through the large gates and straight into the building downstairs.
So many of us are enjoying Thursday FAN at IKEA. If you fancy coming along - look in the restaurant on the 1st floor. Usually we have two tables put together and you will see 12-14 people of different cultures talking - holding cards probably. Just ask 'Is this the FAN Group' and we will be so pleased to have you with us. It is such fun and IKEA makes us all feel at home to be in such a warm and comfortable place. The staff have been so friendly and helpful and we have the pleasure of a free cup of coffee or tea - as most of us have IKEA Family cards now. Why not give us a try. You will be sure of meeting friendly people.
GABALFA FAN GROUP We have started at a new time in Gabalfa FAN Group. It is now for 'early birds' but we had a super meeting last week - only five of us at the first meeting of the year but we look forward to more. Why not give us a try. Sometimes it is good to have an early FAN Meeting. It starts your day well and gives you plenty of time to do things for the rest of the morning. You might be surprised how enjoyable it is - and no longer than an hour. Worth a try?
PENYLAN FAN We have just started Penylan FAN Group in a lovely room in Penylan Library and Recreation Centre. Don't judge us by peeping in the room - why not take the risk and come a couple of times to see if you like it. There has been an interesting mix in and out of Penylan Group. Sometimes newcomers are searching for something or someone. They don't stay to find out who is in the meeting and what their life and interests are - those who do have made some really good friends. One person said to me - so many people lose out because they are always looking for glamorous people and they wouldn't know an interesting person if one came towards them. Let's give each other a chance - whatever age or nationality, faith or no faith - come and join in - only one hour! There is no charge but we have to pay for the room so we hand round a bag and hope for contributions - but no-one can see what you put in! We hope to see you because we KNOW you will be worth getting to know. That has
Hi there! Saturday FAN Group is growing! We really enjoy meeting new people - all adults, men and women are welcome. Please remember to tell anyone lonely in Cardiff that Saturday FAN Group is usually open in the holidays. The Saturday FAN venue is 43 Charles Street and the FAN Charity Officer Amy organised a film of a FAN Meeting there on 9th July, 2009. She is doing the editing and hopes it will help people who want to set up a new FAN Group.
St Mellons Women's Only FAN Group launched on Thursday 23rd April at the Community Education Centre. It was well attended by 16 women including local residents, Community Development Workers, PCSO's and FAN Charity representatives Amy and Gill.
Gill opened up the meeting by welcoming everybody and telling us a little about her life and how her week has been so far. Everyone then took turns to speak about where they come from, thier family life and how their week has been.
We all learned a little bit about each other and found out people have come from all over the world including South Korea, Morrocco, Iran, Germany, Jamaica, England and not forgetting Wales!
After the group finished everyone stayed for tea, coffee and biscuits and chatted to each other, some even found they had mutual friends and had never even met.
Everyone seemed very enthusiastic and are looking forward to coming back next week to hopefully meet more Friends and Neighbours. So if you live in St Mellons or close by then please come along and join us!
